Our new home here at Sawyers Ridge is a lovely home .. all of the neighbors we have met have been very friendly .. however, there are several things about our new home that we have not been happy about .. several things that did not get done or did not get finished. Below is a copy of the letter I have sent with our first 2 monthly maintenance payments .. it is addressed to the people who's names were on our "Welcome to Sawyers Ridge" letter that came with the reminder for our first payment. Tim is the "money man / main man" .. Jim is the builder .. Elaine I believe is the treasurer of the HOA.

Tim, Jim and Elaine,
I have added to our
list of things we would like to have done or at least talk to somebody about and
have posted the list in this letter also .. would appreciate it if someone
could take time to contact us. Our phone number is 636-725-5493.
We are unsure who we
are supposed to contact when something comes up .. are we always supposed to
contact you or should we contact the person it involves .. as in Andy the
plumber or Jim the builder? It would be
great to have a list of contact names and numbers for various things that need taken care of. And if we want to talk to someone in person
do we go to the Remax office?
Before signing the
closing papers when I mentioned various things that needed done Tim told me we
have a year’s warranty on the house that
would cover those things. Is there
something that tells us who the Home Warranty is with and what it covers and
who we contact? We would very much like
to have info on the Home Warranty .. have it explained to us what is covered
and who we talk to. Also Anita told us
they got a list of bi-laws as to what we can and cannot do .. we were not given
a copy.
Below is a list of
the things that we would like looked into ..
- The fireplace is not finished and
ready to be turned on .. it also doesn’t have a mantle .. or the remote
that is supposed to come with it. The guy from the gas company said the the
gas line should be kept shut off until the fireplace is finished. Cooler weather is coming .. we would
like this done so the gas can be turned on
- We would like to have the remotes for
the ceiling fans.
- There is no vent cover on the vent in
the ceiling of the basement Bathroom.
(This was recently taken care of )
- When the man from Sears hooked up the
Washer he said the trim around the area the hoses hook up in is loose because
it is not nailed in and we could eventually get mold in the walls from
that?
- He had a problem getting hot water to
come through so he went down to see if the water heater was on .. it
wasn’t so he turned it on .. in doing so he said the water heater is not up to code .. it
should have an expansion tank ( I THINK that’s what he called it) and it
doesn’t???
- One of the guys took the grids for our
double doors from the garage one day to paint them and they were never
brought back and installed. We
would like to have them installed.
- We have had a problem with water
coming in on the backyard side of the basement when we have heavy
rain. Ken has been doing some
things in back of the house to try to alleviate this and has been
successful .. we are in hopes that when the yard is graded and sodded that
something will be done about this.
- The only vent for heat in the basement
is the one in the bathroom. We
would like some more vents put into the heat ducts.
- There was no trim put on the inside of
the double doors in the basement.
We would like that done.
- The toilet stool in the basement bathroom
is loose from the floor .. who is responsible to take care of this????
- The screen on the double doors to the
deck is the wrong screen .. it is too narrow for the opening.
- A/C is leaking down the side of the
furnace onto the floor instead of the condensation running out the hose.
We would appreciate a
call or a visit and a chance to discuss
these things, Ken and Liz Novak

We got no response from anyone to this letter .. so Tuesday I gave
Tim the money man a call and let him know that we would like to talk to
him about some questions we have and some things that were not done when
we took possession of the house. He came to the house Thursday afternoon .. I gave him a copy of this letter and told him I had sent it with our maintenance checks but no one had contacted us so I thought perhaps he had not seen it .. he said OH Yes .. he had seen it and he gave it to Jim (the builder) and assumed he had gotten in touch with us. We sat at the table and talked as he went through the list of things not done. It is very obvious when we look out our front windows / garage door that Jim the builder is very very busy .. of course that is why things are not finished .. Tim says he has now hired a Maintenance Man (Ray) and he is to take care of the finishing up and repairs. He said that Ray would be in touch with us to come and look around and see what needs done and take care of it. Meanwhile, he called Jim (the builder) about our mantle that we never did get .. Jim has a mantle and is supposed to bring it to us today. He is also supposed to see what needs done to the fireplace and get someone to take care of it.
We have been having a problem with our AC .. the condensation is leaking out the side of the furnace instead of running through the hoses it's supposed to run through .. and it makes more noise than it should .. and the temp never gets below 90 altho we had it set on 73. We took Tim down to the basement to see where it was leaking .. he instantly got his phone out and called Firs & Ice Heating and Cooling and talked to Ed .. Ed said to turn off the AC and turn the fan to ON instead of AUTO and he would be out to check it out. Ed was out about 7:30 .. said the AC didn't have enough Freon and had frozen up .. he put in more Freon and all is well. House is now cool .. in fact I had to move the thermostat to 75 it got so cold last night!!!
AND more good news .. Jim delivered our mantle to us a little bit ago!! We had old Jim we were going for the Nana's Farmhouse / Rustic look and wanted something old and rustic .. he definitely knew what we were talking about!!! This mantle was once a rafter in a 120 year old barn!!! It is very heavy and very rustic and we love it!!! I know when you see it you'll think we're crazy but it's just the look we were wanting AND it has HISTORY!!!
I will try to get better pictures tonight after the sun goes down but couldn't wait to show it to you!!!
I am so glad I called Tim .. I guess I should have done it a long time ago .. because things are finally moving!!! Now if they just KEEP moving!!!
I told you I would get a better picture of the fireplace with it's new ..very rustic looking .. mantle .. here you go ..
I hope they have the fireplace finished and working by the time we put the beautiful picture we bought to put above it for Winter up so we can actually have a fire going in it!!!
