CHAPTER ONE .. THE STORY BEGINS!!!

I told several family members and friends that I would start a blog about our latest "adventure" so they could keep up with what's happening as it happens .. so .. here you go ...

We have finally decided that we  are going to sell our  home at Raintree Plantation and move closer to civilization!!  We have talked about it on and off for several months .. this is a very beautiful home in a beautiful location .. Ken designed the house and did a lot of the work on it himself.  He even did the landscaping of the yard .. he will be leaving a lot of memories of the home and of his life here with Barbara and his kids and grandkids but the home is so far from the places we go each day that we have made a choice to move closer towards "the city" and family and friends.  We hadn't actually came to the decision to get it going BUT one day when I was on the internet looking at homes for sale a box popped up on one of the ads to fill out your name, address, phone number and email address for more information and although I had ignored this particular box several times when it popped up on other pages I decided I would fill it out and get more information.  I assumed I would then get email after email about house listings but instead .. just a few hours later ..  I got a phone call from John Bunch at Remax .. he wanted to come out and see the house and talk to us about letting him sell it for us .. and THAT was the beginning!!!

That was in September of 2014.  Our home was added to the Remax listings .. and posted on the internet!!!  Sad to say we didn't get much interest .. through the Fall and Winter months .. not a good time to try to sell a home .. especially a home on a lake.   For many reasons we also felt that John was not doing all he could have to try to sell the house .. and when his contract expired in March we took the house off the market for a couple of weeks to give us a break from having to wrestle  with all those dust bunnies .. water spots .. dirty tubs, showers, stools and floors every day and to give us time to find a realtor we felt confident with.  One day we saw a home we were interested in .. it was in the Realty Executives ad magazine so we called the office to get someone to show it to us and we found our new realtor .. Lori Montgomery!!  We were very impressed with her from the start and soon talked to her about selling our house for us and signed on the dotted line and things got going!!!  Click on the link below to see the internet ad for our house ..

In the time since we signed with Lori we have looked at many homes .. a couple of the homes we really liked .. however, they would not take a contingency on our selling our home first and before we knew it those houses were under contract to someone else.  We were greatly disappointed each time and but at the same time we told ourselves if it had been meant to be it would have happened .. these must not have been the homes for us!!!

Throughout this time we have talked on and off about a Villa being best for us.  We are not getting any younger and yard work and taking care of the exterior of the house isn't getting any easier!!   We had gone to see The Villas at Sawyers Ridge a couple of times early in this endeavor .. at that time they had a couple of Villas going up but both were already under contract and neither of them would have a walk-out basement which was at the top of the priority list for Ken.   After Ken having mowed the yard here a few times and me running the weed eater we  were just beginning to think we might give the Villas some very serious thought when Ken's daughter Elizabeth had a talk with  him about Villas and my daughter Madonna took me on a house hunting tour on Mothers Day during which we ended up at Sawyers Ridge!!!

Lo and behold .. they were not only in the process of building another Villa BUT these two units would have walk-out basements!!!  AND the lot they were being built on was baked up to a wooded area which was also very high on our priority list!!!

We went inside the display home and looked around .. I should have taken pics .. and asked questions and were told that the unit on the left was already under contract but the one on the right was open!!!   Needless to say when Madonna and I got back to our house we told Ken all about this and it didn't take much coaxing to get Ken to hop in the car and come and take a look for himself!!

TO BE CONTINUED!!!!

Meanwhile .. click on the link below for more on Sawyers Ridge ..
